Indian Cricketer Shreyas Iyer to Undergo Back Surgery, Will Miss IPL 2023 and WTC Final

Shreyas Iyer, a promising middle-order batsman from the Indian cricket team, has been struggling with a recurring back injury for some time now. After consulting with medical experts and team management, Iyer has decided to undergo surgery to address the issue.

This means that Iyer will not be able to participate in the ongoing 2023 IPL season, where he was expected to play a crucial role for his team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The loss of Iyer is a big blow to the KKR, who were counting on his leadership and batting prowess to help them win the IPL title this year.

Moreover, Iyer’s injury will also prevent him from participating in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, which is scheduled for June 7th.

Like his teammate Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer will be heading overseas to undergo the necessary surgery. It is anticipated that he will resume training three months after the surgery, which provides a ray of hope for his participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled for October-November.

The decision to undergo surgery is tough for Iyer, one of the most talented young batsmen in the Indian cricket team. However, it is also necessary, as the back injury has been hampering his performance and could have long-term consequences if left unaddressed. The Kolkata Knight Riders and the Indian cricket team will hope he makes a speedy recovery and returns to full fitness soon.
