In the 58th match of IPL 2023 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Abhishek Sharma suffered a major setback as he gave away 31 runs in a single over, equaling the highest runs conceded in an over by a bowler this season along with Gujarat Titans’ Yash Dayal and Mumbai Indians’ Arjun Tendulkar.

Lucknow Super Giants won the match by seven wickets, keeping their playoff hopes alive by finishing fourth in the points table. After winning the toss and batting first, SRH scored 182 runs for losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Lucknow overcame the target by losing three wickets in 19.2 overs.

The turning point of the match was the 16th over bowled by Abhishek Sharma. Marcus Stoinis was the striking batter in this over, hitting the first ball for a six, and the next ball went wide. He also hit the 2nd ball for a six. In the 3rd ball of the over, Stoinis got out by giving a catch to Abdul Samad.

It was Nicholas Pooran who came to the crease after Markus’ wicket. Pooran hit three consecutive sixes in the remaining three balls bowled by Abhishek. In that over, Abhishek conceded 31 runs, including five sixes and one wide.
