Gill was at the striking end of the fourth ball of the 47th over, bowled by New Zealand bowler Ferguson. At this time, Gill was standing on 169* runs. Gill hits the offside on the Ferguson delivery and runs down for a single. But Shardul Thakur, who was at the non-strike end, did not start for the run. Gill had already reached the non-striker’s end. Shardul immediately left the crease to save Gill’s wicket and ran down to become the wicket.
