India gets off to a winning start in ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. In the match at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, India defeated South Africa by seven wickets. India won the match due to Shweta Sehrawat’s batting excellence and Shafali Verma Aparna’s all-round performances. Shafali Verma also hit six boundaries in a single over of the game.

South Africa scored 166 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat. India chased down South Africa’s 167-run target in 16.3 overs, losing three wickets. Indian openers Shafali and Shweta got the team off to a good start. In the opening partnership, they both scored 77 runs in 7 overs.

Shafali Verma hit 6 boundaries in the 6th over of the match and won the crowd’s applause. South African bowler Ntabiseng Nini conceded 6 boundaries in one over. Shafali hit 5 consecutive fours in the first five balls and a six in the last ball of the over.
