The BCCI announced the 15-member Indian squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, and Ajinkya Rahane was among the selected players. Rahane’s inclusion was based on his recent success in the IPL 2023. The WTC final will be held at The Oval in England from June 7, 2023, and Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team.
The team has a good mix of experienced players and young talents, and Rahane’s inclusion adds more depth to the batting lineup. Rahane’s excellent performance in the IPL 2023 was one of the key reasons for his inclusion in the squad. The right-handed batsman scored 209 runs in 5 matches at an average of 52.25, with two half-centuries to his name. His strike rate of 199.05 was impressive, and he played a crucial role in his team’s success in the tournament.
After over a year, Rahane returns to the Indian Test team. He last played in January 2022 during the South Africa Test series.
