The stage has been set for the second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), as the auctions for WPL 2024 were held today in Mumbai. With 165 talented women cricketers up for grabs, the auction witnessed a flurry of bidding wars, showcasing the growing prominence of women’s cricket on the global stage. A total of 165 women cricketers, comprising 104 Indian players and 61 overseas stars, took part in the auction.
Amidst the auction drama, teams jostled to secure the best talents to bolster their squads for the upcoming tournament. Notably, the Gujarat Giants emerged with the most oversized purse, boasting 5.95 crore in their coffers and aiming to fill ten slots in their squad. In contrast, the defending champions Mumbai Indians appeared with 2.1 crores in their purse, tasked with filling five vacant slots.
