WATCH: Rohit Sharma Withdraws Non-striker’s End Run-out Appeal Against Dasun Shanaka

India won the first match of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. With a 67-run victory, India took a 1-0 series lead. Meanwhile, in the final over of the game, Indian captain Rohit Sharma earned applause from the cricket fans for his sportsman spirit.

The incident occurred during the final over of the match, which was bowled by Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami. Sri Lanka needed 86 runs in the final over to win, and captain Dasun Shanaka needed only 5 runs to complete his century. Shanaka scored two runs in the first ball of the over, bringing the total to 97. No runs were scored on the second ball, but on the third ball of the over, Shanaka confusedly scored a run and handed the strike to Kasun Rajitha.

In his haste to get a strike on the very next ball, Shanaka left the crease at the non-striker’s end before Shami bowled the ball. Shami noticed Shanaka coming out of the crease and ran him out. The on-field umpire started leaving the run-out decision to the 3rd umpire. Indian captain Rohit Sharma immediately intervened and withdrew Shanaka’s run-out appeal.
