Glenn Maxwell lit up the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi with his record-breaking performance during Australia’s match against the Netherlands in the 24th match of the ICC Men’s World Cup. Maxwell, who batted sixth for Australia, carved his mark in the annals of cricket history by reaching the World Cup’s fastest century.
In a breathtaking display of cricketing prowess, Glenn Maxwell scored a century in just 40 balls, rewriting the record books and eclipsing the previous record held by South African batsman Markram, who took 49 balls to reach a century in the same tournament.
Maxwell’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he troubled the Dutch bowlers with an array of stunning strokes. He scored 106 runs off 44 deliveries, an incredible feat that included nine boundaries and eight sixes.
While his entire innings was a spectacle, the highlight of Maxwell’s performance was undoubtedly his audacious ‘Reverse Sweep Six.’ This extraordinary shot occurred during the second ball of the 47th over, bowled by Bas de Leede in the Australian innings. The unorthodox stroke, executed with finesse and power, left spectators and even fellow team members stunned.
