Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lankan cricket team’s skipper, has been ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 for the remainder of the tournament. Shanaka was injured during Sri Lanka’s World Cup match against Pakistan.
The injury has been assessed by the medical team, and the recovery time is estimated to be approximately three weeks. This timeline, unfortunately, leaves Shanaka sidelined for the remainder of the tournament. The loss of their captain is undoubtedly a blow to Sri Lanka, as his leadership and all-round skills have been invaluable to the team.
The Sri Lankan team has made the quick decision to replace Dasun Shanaka in their World Cup lineup with Chamika Karunaratne. Remarkably, Karunaratne had already been in India and had been traveling with the team as their standby player. In Shanaka’s absence, the team will be led by Kusal Mendis.
