Young Indian sensation Shubman Gill has emerged as the new number-one ODI batter in the world. This marks the end of an incredible 951-day streak for Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who had held the top position for an extended period. Gill, who was just one point behind Azam before the start of the World Cup, now boasts 830 points, while Azam has settled into the second position with 824 points.
Gill’s remarkable performance in the ongoing World Cup played a pivotal role in catapulting him to the top of the rankings. The 24-year-old batsman’s consistency with the bat has not only helped India in the tournament but has also significantly boosted his rankings.
Simultaneously, another Indian player, Mohammad Siraj, has made history by becoming the No. 1 ODI bowler in the world. Siraj’s exceptional performances in the tournament, coupled with his ability to take wickets consistently, have propelled him to this prestigious position.
In addition to Gill and Siraj’s achievements, Virat Kohli moved up to fourth place in the ICC ODI batters’ rankings. Shubman Gill joins an elite group of Indian cricketers who have gained the No. 1 rating in ICC ODI batting. This achievement had previously been done by Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli, and Gill now ranks with them as one of cricket’s brightest talents.
