Undoubtedly, the IPL is the best cricket league in the world. Now, the BCCI has launched a women’s cricket league modeled after the IPL. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) featured five teams in its inaugural season. The DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai will host all 2023 WPL matches.
WPL’s inaugural season will begin on March 4 and conclude on March 26. The first match of the WPL tournament will be played on March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians. The first season of WPL consisted of 22 matches, including 20 league matches and two playoff matches.
The league stage matches of the teams in the tournament will be in a round-robin format. The top 3 teams in the points table after the end of the tournament league stage matches will qualify for the playoffs. The team finishing first in the points table will be directly qualified for the finals. The 2nd and 3rd placed teams will play an eliminator, the winner of which will qualify for the finals.
